This publication provides a detailed guide to civil procedure in the
Northern Territory containing up-to-date legislative materials, commentary
and case summaries.
The service contains all rules, forms, legislation, practice directions and
costs and fee schedules relevant to proceedings in the Supreme Court, Local
Court, Small Claims jurisdiction and Work Health Court.
Rules, Acts and regulations are extensively annotated, containing statements
of principle, commentary regarding the scope and operation of provisions and
case summaries outlining how provisions have been applied in practice.
Annotations cover case law from the Northern Territory Supreme Court and
Court of Appeal, as well as key decisions of superior courts from other
jurisdictions, including the High Court and Supreme Court of Victoria.
Rules, Acts and regulations relating to the Local Court, Small Claims
division and Work Health Court are also annotated with decisions from their
respective jurisdictions.
A "Miscellaneous Civil Procedure Law" chapter at the end of the service
contains commentary on various matters relevant to procedure but which do
not relate directly to provisions of rules, Acts or regulations.
The service is updated six times per year. Each update is accompanied by a
Civil Procedure NT Bulletin providing a detailed overview of case law
developments and new commentary added to the service.
The content is fully indexed and related provisions and commentary are
comprehensively cross-referenced.
Coverage of NT case law
The service
currently covers NTSC and NTCA cases from 1987 to 2008 and Local Court and
Work Health Court cases from 2008 to 2010. Coverage of 2009 to 2010 NTSC and
NTCA cases, and of 2002 to 2007 Local Court and Work Health Court cases,
will be included in updates to the service throughout 2010.
About the General Editor
Michael Grant
QC is Solicitor-General for the Northern Territory. Prior to his appointment
as Solicitor-General, Mr Grant practised at the private bar as a member of
William Forster Chambers. He had previously worked as the Director of
Litigation with the Northern Territory Attorney-General's Department and as
a solicitor-advocate with the Solicitor for the Northern Territory (formerly
Crown Solicitor's Office).
